Polyetherimide (PEI):

It is an amorphous and amber to transparent thermoplastic material. Polyetherimide is shortly known as PEI. Which is similar to the plastic of PEEK, But PEI is cheaper than PEEK. PEI’s chemical formula is (C37H24O6N2)n. In large scale market this material is used in various application as of now.

Physical Properties:

The density of Polyetherimide is 1.27 gm/cm3 and molecular weight is 592 gm/mol. It is prone to stress cracking in chlorinated solvents. Melting temperature of PEI is the range of 210-230 deg c. It has high di-electric strength, inherent flame resistance and low smoke generation thermoplastic material.

Application:

It is generally used to make medical and chemical instrumentation, due to their heat resistance, solvent resistance and flame resistance etc.
– It is used in FDM 3D printers
– High quality medical equipment
– Chemical lab equipment

Advantage of PEI:

– Continuous use temperature of 180 deg c.
– High strength
– Flame resistance
– Low smoke generation quality
– Inherent heat resistance capacity

Overview of PEI:

PEI is a high performance thermoplastic material, which characteristics are high strength, rigidity at elevated temperatures, long term heat resistance, good dimension stability and good electrical properties.
Compare to other similar resin, PEI has outstanding dimensional stability and inherent flame resistance. PEI does resist chemicals such as hydrocarbon, alcohols and halogenated solvents etc.

Due to creep resistance PEI is replace to metal at long ways and in many structural applications. Electrical properties show excellent stability under variable temperature, humidity and frequency conditions.
